“Linton – A Life in the collections” – complete now (Linton-Archive)


Part IV, “Reception”, completes the most comprehensive monographic source related to the genesis of political art in the 19th century and the history of wood engraving. Linton- A Life in the collections comprises 273 articles and commentaries illustrated with more than 1,500 pictures in the online version. In addition, pure text versions are available as PDFs. A wide range of keywords now allows browsing A Life in the collections as a hypertext according to thematic references and internal contexts.

One of the most exciting chapters of A Life in the collections, the media-related debate on the surface realism of Linton´s American students, who then established themselves as the “New School”, is now on view in the exhibition “Confound the Line” – Photo-Graphics of the New School of Wood Engraving” which is shown in the Gallery for Prints and Drawings of the Wallraf – Richartz Museum, Cologne from 14 September 2012 till 6 January 2013.

Mit Teil IV “Reception” ist die umfangreichste monografische Quelle zur Entstehungsgeschichte politischer Kunst im neunzehnten Jahrhundert und zur Historie des Holzstichs jetzt komplett. Linton – A Life in the collections umfasst 279 Artikel und Kommentare, die in der online-Version mit über 1500 Abbildungen illustriert sind. Daneben stehen reine Textfassungen als PDFs zur Verfügung. Über ein breit gestreutes Feld von Schlüsselwörtern läßt sich A Life in the collections nun auch als Hypertext nach thematischen Bezügen und inneren Zusammenhängen durchforsten.

Eines der spannendsten Kapitel von Linton – A Life in the collections, die von Linton angestossene Mediendebatte um den Oberflächenrealismus seiner amerikanischen Schüler, die als “New School” firmierten, ist nun Gegenstand der Ausstellung. “Zur Hölle mit der Linie. Die Fotografik der New School of Wood Engraving”, die vom 14. September 2012 –  6. Januar 2013 im Graphischen Kabinett des Wallraf-Richartz Museums in Köln zu sehen ist.
